# Claude Duet and Muse draw the approval line differently

> Claude Duet asks before every send, payment, signature, or deletion and shares your Claude plan limits. Meta Muse lets standing grants cover later actions and meters a separate weekly allowance. Compare approvals, usage, and access as of October 21, 2026.

Claude Duet asks before each consequential action. Meta Muse lets you grant permission ahead of time. That's the main difference between two agents that both run on a provider's cloud computer and check in without being prompted.

Anthropic opened Duet as a waitlisted research preview on October 21, 2026, for US Pro and Max subscribers. Muse launched on September 8.

We compared the published documentation for both on October 21. We haven't run tasks in either product. Duet isn't open to us yet, and nobody has published a measured completion rate for either one.

## Duet asks every time, and Muse can be told once

Duet's [launch article](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet) says it shows you what it will do and waits before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document, or deletes anything. Two actions stay blocked even if you approve them: trading securities and moving money between accounts. A separate classifier stops it from sharing the most sensitive tier of data, such as card numbers and government IDs, and health or financial details go out only when you tell it to send them.

Muse puts a separate permission agent, Sentinel, in charge. Meta's [security write-up](https://research.meta.ai/blog/security-and-safety-for-ai-agents-our-approach-with-muse) says Sentinel allows, denies, or asks you about each action under the policy you set. A grant can be one-time, last for a session or a task, run for a set period, or stay in place indefinitely. Read-only, previously allowed, or low-risk actions go ahead without asking. Purchases are the exception, with an approval prompt every time.

Meta's [business page](https://muse.ai/business) also says nothing publishes, sends, or spends without your approval. Both statements can be true, because an approval you gave last week can cover this week's email. Read the grant you're about to give, because the scope you pick decides how many later actions it covers.

So the choice turns on how you want to supervise. If you want to see every outgoing message before it leaves, Duet's documented default matches that. If the same weekly report goes to the same people and you'd rather approve the routine once, Muse lets you set that up, and the risk lives in how broad you make the grant. We haven't tested whether either product enforces its rules correctly on a hard case, such as a prompt injection hidden in an incoming email.

## Neither meter tells you what a finished job costs

Duet has no price of its own during the preview. It's included in Pro, which costs USD 20 a month in the US, and in Max, which starts at USD 100. The catch is in the [FAQ](https://claude.com/resources/articles/claude-duet): Duet draws on the same plan limits as everything else you do with Claude. Its background checks count against them, and it checks your connected accounts every few hours. Anthropic says checking nonstop would use up a plan much faster.

That matters if you already use Claude heavily. Someone who runs into Pro's limits through Claude Code or long chats will be sharing that same pool with Duet's scheduled checks and with bigger jobs like a financial model or a deck. You can tell Duet what to report and how often, so fewer check-ins should save usage. We haven't measured how much.

Muse keeps a separate meter. Meta's [subscription help](https://www.meta.com/help/subscriptions/1021145227643680/) lists a free tier with an unstated usage limit, Power at $20 a month for 500 million Muse tokens a week, and Maximum at $100 a month for 3 billion. The page shows dollar signs without naming a currency, and Meta says benefits vary by region and account.

Muse tokens aren't established as API tokens, and a share of a Claude plan isn't a token count, so the two products can't be compared on price per task.

Both sources describe allowances, and neither publishes what a typical errand consumes. The model underneath doesn't settle it either. Duet runs on [Claude Opus 5.5](/models/claude-opus-5-5) and Muse on [Muse Spark 1.3](/models/muse-spark-1-3), and a model's benchmark row measures the model under a test harness, not the agent's scheduling, connectors, or approvals.

Duet carries over the memory, skills, and connected apps from your Claude account, and Anthropic's [product page](https://claude.com/product/claude-duet) counts more than 6,000 connectors and plugins. If your email, calendar, QuickBooks, and Slack already connect to Claude, Duet starts with that context. Muse connects Facebook and Instagram business accounts, Meta ad accounts, and a named list that includes Shopify, QuickBooks, Stripe, Slack, and Notion. For a shop that sells and advertises through Instagram, Muse connects those accounts directly, and Duet's launch pages don't name them.

Where Duet is the wrong pick: you aren't in the US, you're on Free or Team, or you need it today rather than after the waitlist. Anthropic also lists its preview gaps. Duet may misjudge urgency, it can miss something that arrives between check-ins, it's weaker on personal errands like booking tickets, and it can't yet show you its browser. Muse is the wrong pick if your memory, skills, and connectors already live in Claude, or if you need the Confidential VM that Meta has only promised for later this year. Until then Meta says it can still access data when needed to run the service. Training use is opt-out on Muse and, per Claude's pricing page, on Pro and Max too, so the published pages don't separate them on that.

Both products advertise the same small-business job, so it makes a fair first test. Connect QuickBooks or Stripe, ask each agent to find invoices more than 30 days overdue, and have it draft reminders without sending them. That's a trial we'd suggest, not one we've run. Record your usage before and after, check every invoice it flags against the source, and note whether it asked before touching anything. If the drafts are right and the usage is tolerable, give it the next step, sending, one approval at a time.

Our [personal AI agents table](/ai-agents) puts both products next to Hark Pro, Dots, Grok Bot, and the self-hosted options, with each cell dated. The [Hark Pro vs Muse comparison](/blog/posts/hark-pro-vs-muse) covers Muse's connectors and usage plans from a different angle.

## Questions

### Can I use Claude Duet on the Free plan?

Not at launch, as far as the published pages go. Anthropic opened the research preview by waitlist to US Pro and Max subscribers and says Team and Enterprise aren't included yet. The Free plan isn't mentioned at all. Until Anthropic names it, plan on a paid Claude subscription and a place on the waitlist.

### Does Muse work outside the US?

Yes, in Canada. Meta's October 8 update says Muse is available in the US and Canada, and its business page limits it to people 18 and over. Outside those two countries there's no date. The subscription help page also says plans are in limited testing, so confirm your offer inside your own account.

### How is Claude Duet different from the Claude app?

No. Duet is a separate app for iOS and Android, also reachable on the web at claude.ai. The main Claude app waits for you to open a chat. Duet sends a morning brief, takes tasks by message, and contacts you when work is done or needs approval. Both use the same account, memory, skills, and connectors.
